            Dr. Sandra Trejos, professor of economics at Clarion University, participated in the 79th Annual Meeting of the Southern Economic Association (SEA) in San Antonio, Texas, Nov. 21-23, 2009.

            Trejos was part of a panel on Innovations in Teaching. Her presentation was titled: "Clicking on Student Engagement in the Economics Classroom." She discussed her use of the student response system to engage students in both Principles of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics.

            She also participated in a session on How Students, Think, Forget and Perform in Economics. Her paper on "Academic Performance, Effort, and Attendance in Lower-Core Economics Courses" assesses the relationship between effort and academic performance while controlling for attendance and some other student-specific attributes for a sample of lower-core economics courses.

             The Southern Economic Association is one of the oldest regional economics associations in the United States, dating back to a conference held in Atlanta in November 1928. From its founding, the purpose of the Southern Economic Association has been to further the education of scholars and the public in economic affairs.
