Drs. Miguel Olivas-Luján, professor of management for Clarion University's College of Business Administration, and James Pesek, professor of management and dean of the College of Business Administration, published an article entitled "Teaching Evidence-Based Human Resource Management" in the Western Journal of Human Resource Management, Spring 2009, pp. 12-16.
In their article, the authors review the case for Evidence-Based Human Resource Management and offer recommendations to teach Human Resources Management in a way that integrates the existing scientific evidence and motivates students to become more professionally informed managers. The issue, composed of five articles, is available online at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/1127124.
This paper is part of a collection of articles written mostly by advisors to university chapters of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Dr. Edward Hernandez, professor of management and human resources at California State University-Stanislaus, as editor of the journal, organized a series of articles on the teaching of human resources management. Publication of pedagogic articles is highly consistent with the mission of Clarion University's College of Business Administration and contributes to the College's goal of maintaining its accreditation with AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the oldest and most rigorous accrediting body for business schools around the world.
Both Olivas-Luján and Pesek have been advisors to the Clarion chapter of SHRM, an affiliate of the national society of HR professionals. The latter organization has more than 250,000 members worldwide and offers a wide variety of services to its members, including a heavily discounted membership for students. The Clarion SHRM chapter is open for membership to all majors, graduate or undergraduate, interested in a career in the human resources field. Interested students should contact Olivas-Luján, or Jen Mallik, current SHRM Chapter President.
