In a new venue with creative input coming from both faculty and students, Clarion University Theatre is ready to present Dance Concert 2009 on Dec. 10-11 at 8 p.m. in Marwick-Boyd Little Theatre.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $9 for children and $6 for Clarion University students with valid identification cards. Tickets may be reserved by calling (814) 393-ARTS or on-line at http://www.clarion.edu/28193/.

Marc Holland, instructor of theatre, is in his second year of directing the concert and is pleased about the move to Marwick-Boyd Little Theatre. "It is a more intimate setting," he explained. "The audience will be able to see faces and the emotions of the dancers."

Dance Concert 2009 will have 16 pieces, four choreographed by Holland, one by Mariliouse Michele, professor of theatre, and the remainder by students. It will feature a variety of music from electronic to hip hop to authentic African music composed by students Lance Jones and Brian Teeters.

"The dance concert should be about differences," said Holland. "I hope this piece brings out the diversity of perception. I am looking forward to seeing the completed student choreography, to see their perspective on movement."

Holland explained that each of his choreographed pieces is different. "They express how I feel about myself and my surroundings. The poster for the concert shows feet moving. I believe that a single step forward can become a dance movement."
