            The Clarion University Department of Biology will host the 7th Annual Animal Physiology Symposium, Dec. 8 and10. Eighteen Clarion University students will make presentations during those three days.

            The presentations are open to all with the presentations scheduled Dec. 8 and 10 from 8-9 a.m. in room 207 of Science Technology Center and Dec. 10 from 2-4:30 p.m. in room 134 of Science and Technology Center. Refreshments will be provided.

            "These students from biology 451/551 have worked with partners or individually to develop independent research projects in animal physiology this semester," said Dr. Valerie Bennett, professor of biology, who teaches the courses. "They have experienced the many challenges, frustrations, and rewards that are part of scientific research, and I have been impressed with their creativity and efforts."

            The presenters for Dec. 8 include:

            8:05 a.m. - Tyler Cauvel and Lucas Kirschman, "Freeze Tolerance of Red Spotted Newts in Western Pennsylvania"

            Cauvel, a senior biology major, is a son of Julie Cauvel of Titusville and is a graduate of Titusville High School.

            Kirschman, a graduate student seeking a master's degree in biology, is a son of James Kirschman of Salix.

            8:30 a.m. - Gina King and Rachel Muller, "A Comparison of Freeze Tolerance and Metamorphosis in Competitor Insect Inhabitants of Goldenrod Galls."

            King, a senior molecular biology major, resides in Franklin with her husband, Kenneth, and is a graduate of Franklin High School.

            Muller, a graduate student seeking a master's degree in biology, resides in Parker and is a daughter of Cindy Irwin of Bruin.

            The presenters for Dec. 10 include:

            8:05 a.m. - Eric Steup, "The Effects of Adrenaline and Propranolol on the Cardiovascular System of Rats."

            Steup, a graduate student seeking a master's degree in biology, is a son of Robert Steup of Cranberry Township.

            8:30 a.m. - Kiera Tran, Haley White, and Ron Pollock, "The Effects of Caffeine Pills on Heart Rate and Blood Pressure."

            Tran, a junior biology/pre-medicine major, is a daughter of Tuyen and Shelia Tran of Lancaster and is a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School.

            White, a senior biology major, is a daughter of Mary White of Morrisdale and is a graduate of West Branch High School.

            Pollock, a graduate student seeking a master's degree in biology, is a son of Mark Pollock of Sligo and is a graduate of Clarion High School.

            2:05 p.m. - Matthew Kulinski, Kyle Forsburg, and Amy Roberts, "Testing of Ulnar Nerve Conduction Through Electroshock"

            Kulinski, a graduate student seeking a master's degree in biology, is a son of Leon Kulinski of Oil City and is a graduate of Oil City High School.

            Forsburg, a junior biology major, is a son of Diane McCourt of South Williamsport and is a graduate of South Williamsport High School.

            Roberts, a graduate student seeking a degree in biology, is a daughter of Leonard Hribar of Oil City and is a graduate of Cranberry High School.

            2:30 p.m. - Thao Wolbert, "The Effects of Light on Antifreeze Protein Activity of Dendroides Canadensis."

            Wolbert, a junior biology/pre-medicine major, is a daughter of William Wolbert of Clarion and is a graduate of Gia Dinh School.

            2:55 p.m. - Samantha Cooney and Lorraine Krelko, "Frog Gastrocnemius Muscle and Caffeine.

            Cooney, a junior molecular biology major, is a daughter of Wendy Cooney of New Castle and is a graduate of Laurel High School.

            Krelko, a junior molecular biology major, is a daughter of Tammy Brenenborg of Parker and is a graduate of AC Valley High School.

            3:30 p.m. - Shakira O'Neil, Pete Johnson, and Norika Francis-Metzger, "Effects of E.coli in vivo Infection on Murine Metabolic Rate."

            O'Neil, a senior molecular biology major, is a daughter of Nerrissa Mixon of Philadelphia and is a graduate of Frankford High School.

            Johnson, a junior biology major, is a son of Susan Johnson of Canfield, Ohio, and is a graduate of Canfield High School.

            Francis-Metzger, a senior biology major, is a daughter of Elvira Mezger of Searsport, Maine, and is a graduate of Hampden Academy.

            3:55 p.m. - Garrett Beatty, "The Effect of Temperature on Maggot Masses vs. Individuals."

            Beatty, a junior biology/pre-medicine major, is a son of Bonnie Beatty of Rochester Mills and is a graduate of Punxsutawney High School.
