The Clarion University student Chapter of the National Broadcast Society (NBS) received the Most Improved Chapter Award and two of its members won first place in a production competition at the NBS Regional Conference at Millersville University, Nov. 6-8.

The Clarion chapter won the Most Improved Chapter Award based on the successful development of the chapter over the past year.

"We were recognized because we increased the number of students in our chapter,  served the community in many service events through the TV and radio station, and attended both the Regional and National conferences last year, said Bill Adams, NBS advisor.
David Wilhelm and Mansha Pasha Memon won first place in the News, Documentary, or Public Affairs/Interview Video category for their sensitive and moving story about the decaying living conditions in the area around Niagara Falls. The video illustrates how organizations are bringing hope to the residents who live there and it sheds light on making improvements to the distraught area. The documentary will now be entered in the national NBS Video competition.

Wilhelm, a junior communication major, is son of Richard Wilhelm of Clymer and is a graduate of Purchase Line High School.

Memon, a freshman communication major when the project was completed, has returned to her native Pakistan.

The National Broadcasting Society goes beyond the classroom to prepare college students and entry-level professionals for careers in the electronic media. Region One of NBS consists of nearly 20 institutions from the northeastern coast including Clarion University's fellow Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education members, Kutztown, Millersville, Edinboro, Shippensburg, IUP, and California.

Clarion University is the high-achieving, nationally recognized, comprehensive university that delivers a personal and challenging academic experience.
