Mamet's brilliant play works on several levels. The audience is watching the actors, announcer and sound effects man present a radio play in the 1930s with unerring authenticity. The play itself is about a young inventor who's found a way to run an engine on distilled water. He's ridiculed by crooked lawyers who attempt to buy the invention from him on behalf of certain business interests.
