The Clarion University Honors Program, in coordination with President Joseph Grunenwald and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Foundation Inc., is announcing a call for nominations for the 2010 Syed R. Ali-Zaidi Award for Academic Excellence, presented to a graduating senior.
Dr. Ali-Zaidi, a charter member of the PASSHE Board of Governors and a strong advocate for itsUniversities, established the award to inspire and honor PASSHE students who excel in the pursuit of knowledge. Faculty members are encouraged to nominate students based on the following criteria:
•Outstanding academic performance in the academic major and in other areas of study;
•Recognition of scholarship by members of the university faculty;
•Participation in extra/co-curricular activities during undergraduate years; and
•The quality of the nominee’s essay, written by the nominee, addressing how the university prepared him/her for the next career step and what that next step will be.
The 2010 Award recipient will be honored with a medallion and a check for $1,000 during the university’s commencement ceremony. Two top semi-finalists will receive a check for $500.
The recipient and finalists for the Syed R. Ali-Zaidi award for Academic Excellence will be acknowledged at the April 2010 meeting of the Board of Governors. The recipient will be asked to be present at that meeting to receive commendations by the Board.
Names of senior nominees should be submitted by Wednesday, Nov.18, to Brent Register at bregister@clarion.edu.
