Dr. Kreag Danvers, professor of accounting at Clarion University, and Dr. Charles Brown from Pennsylvania State University-Behrend, published an article, A Financial Modeling and Decision Analysis Case," in the Journal of Accounting Education, Vol. 27 (1), 2009.
The authors developed an instructional case that provides a realistic financial modeling experience for students. The case uses an Excel-based financial model to support business planning and decision-making for a hypothetical technology company.
Pedagogical objectives include model building, scenario analysis, and development of critical thinking skills, which closely align with the AICPA "Core Competency Framework for Entry into the Accounting Profession." While Danvers employs variations of this case in his undergraduate cost accounting course at Clarion University, the project is also used in MBA programs at other universities.
Clarion University is the high-achieving, nationally recognized, comprehensive university that delivers a personal and challenging academic experience.
