Frequently Asked Student Questions

Q: Can I call the Office of Judicial & Mediation Services if someone is harassing me?

A: Yes please call the Office right away or contact University Police, or Residence Life Services staff so we may talk with you about your options.  If the situation is serious or life-threatening, call University Police at (814) 393-2111 or (911).  You may also wish to contact The Office of Social Equity at (814) 393-2109.

Q: Can the Office of Judicial & Mediation Services provide me with legal advice?

A: No, we are not able to provide any legal advice to students regarding court cases.  You may, however, wish to contact the Public Defenders Office of Clarion County at (814)-226-7380.

Q:  What should I do if I will be attending another institution, or, if I am looking at an internship needing a student condunct background check?

A:  Some institutions may require a background check through the Registrar's Office and through Student Affairs.  The Coordinator of Judicial Affairs and Residence Life Education will be able to complete this check if you have verified that you wish for the check to occur.  This is also true for internships, employment, and the military, etc.

Q: I have tried to access my student account and it says I have a hold from Judicial & Mediation Services.  What does that mean?

A:  Generally, holds are placed on student accounts if they fail to attend hearings, meetings, complete sanctions, or if a hearing would be pending should they return to the University after leaving by choice or if they are placed on a suspension or expulsion.  Please call the office to find out specifically what you should do to have the hold lifted.

Q: I am going through criminal charges.  Why do I still have to meet with an Administrative Hearings Officer/University Conduct Board?

A: We recognize that not all violations of University Policy will occur on campus and that it is important not only to preserve a good relationship with the community but to also uphold the student code of conduct when our students chose to disobey State, Local, or Federal Laws in the community.  Generally, we will hear about incidents occurring in Clarion Borough and the surrounding areas.  In some cases we will also be notified of incidents occurring in other metropolitan areas or at other institutions should their Police or Student Affairs staff forward that information
