Admission Process

 

Admission Process for New or Transfer Students Including Current Clarion Students

Step I:  Application to Clarion University

  • Students who are new to Clarion University must apply and be admitted to Clarion University.  For information on applying to Clarion, please visit Clarion University's Office of Admissions webpage.      


Step II: Application to Respiratory Care Program

  • Currently enrolled Clarion University students who wish to apply to the respiratory care program must have a minimum QPA of 2.25.  Students must also have a minimum grade of "C" in any math and sciences courses that are required for the respiratory care program and that they have already taken.  Required math and sciences courses include Math 112 or 117, BIOL 258 and 259, BIOL 260, and PHSC 111.  

 

  • Schedule a career shadowing appointment through Clarion University's Department of Allied Health by calling 814-393-1250.  The career shadowing form must be completed in its entirety at career shadowing appointment.

 

  • Two formal letters of recommendation from teachers or recent employers must be sent from the person writing the letter directly to the respiratory care program director


Step III:  Respiratory Care Acceptance Decision

  • The Respiratory Care Admission Committee must make a positive recommendation for the applicant

  • The applicant will be notified of acceptance to the respiratory care program by Clarion University's School of Nursing & Allied Health


Step IV: Pre-Clinical Requirements (coordinated through the respiratory care program director) 

  • All pre-clinical requirements must be satisfied before a respiratory care student will be permitted to attend respiratory clinical practicum.  Individuals who fail to submit all pre-clinical requirement documentation listed above by April 1st or who are unable to successfully obtain child abuse history, criminal background, and illegal drug clearance, etc, will not be permitted to continue in the respiratory care program, but may pursue another major at Clarion University.  Click here to learn about pre-clinical requirements for the respiratory care program.

 

  • Throughout the 24-month respiratory care program, students will be assigned to specialty clinical rotations at other clinical sites in the region.  Considerable travel is required and students must have reliable transportation.
