A Welcome to Our Department Site
from Dr. Colleen McAleer, Department Chair and Professor
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers an undergraduate degree in Speech Pathology/Speech and Hearing Science, and a Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology. The undergraduate degree program is pre-professional in nature and prepares students to attend graduate school in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology. Upon completion of the Master's degree, students are eligible for certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Pennsylvania license to practice Speech Language Pathology and the PA Teaching Certificate in Speech-Language Impaired. The Master of Science education program in speech-language pathology at Clarion University is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard #310, Rockville, Maryland 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700.
The program is located in Keeling Health Center, which also houses the Clarion University Speech and Hearing Clinic. The Clinic provides services to patients with communication disorders, and an opportunity for program students to obtain clinical experience. Off-campus clinical externships sites for students' clinical training are available in a variety of settings.
The department's strategic plan is available for review by students, alumni and others who may have an interest. The plan is posted on Blackboard for review by the program's students. A printed copy of the strategic plan is also available for review in the departmental office in 118 Keeling.
