Lauschel is one of only five female PSAC athletes and 10 PSAC athletes to earn the award, which is voted on by the league’s Sports Information Directors recognizing student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom as well in the arena of competition, during the spring competition season.
She held a perfect 4.0 GPA in Finance while also going 10-10 in singles play and 9-10 in doubles play for the Golden Eagles, who finished the year with a 10-7 combined fall and spring record. Leuschel was also named the PSAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week April 21 after she won both singles matches and doubles matches in a 2-0 week for Clarion.
Leuschel, who finished her Clarion career 22-15 in singles play and 21-19 in doubles action including 12-5 mark at mostly No. 5 singles in 2007-2008, was also honored as the William N. Wasson Student Leadership and Academic Award winner by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association in February and was named the Wall Street Journal Award Winner at Clarion as the top business student at the university.
She is the daughter of Stephen and Laurel Leuschel of St. Marys.
NOTES - Leuschel is the second Clarion athlete to be named a Top Ten award winner during the 2008-2009 academic year joining Erin Richard (Winter - indoor track & field). She is also the 35th Golden Eagles athlete to earn the award since its inception in 1997-98. That ties Clarion for the most PSAC Top Ten Award winners ... Each school can nominate two female and two male athletes in each of the three sports seasons (fall, winter, spring) for the Top Ten Award. The student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.25 and must be a starter of key reserve on a PSAC athletic team … More information on all Clarion University athletic teams can be found at www.clariongoldeneagles.com <http://www.clariongoldeneagles.com>.
